The Role

Pixel Toys is looking for an exceptional Design Director to guide the development of our brand new original IP, a third-person, sci-fi action adventure game as well as support the rest of the studio. As part of Pixel Toys brand new Premium division, you will be helping drive forward the company’s vision for new and exciting premium IPs and ongoing product lines.

This is an exciting opportunity to join and lead the design vision of an exciting new project currently in pre-production plus drive direction and strategy for all new titles going forward.

What you will do:

  • Primary responsibility for delivery of Best in Class gameplay throughout all aspects of each game you work on, across all platforms & SKUs of each game.
  • Lead and champion the design, game vision and player needs, ensuring all elements of the game design contribute to player satisfaction and enjoyment
  • Proactively participate in the decision-making process and oversee iterative quality improvements to ensure that the game implementation meets expectations
  • Set priorities and tasks for the design team and ensure timely delivery to a high standard
  • Think forward, preparing solutions ahead of time and designing systems with a high degree of flexibility
  • Be responsible for providing clear and structured design documentation and ensuring this is understood by the team, with a goal to creating Best in Class games
  • Be a role model for all team members by underscoring and emphasizing project and company goals, providing feedback on performance, and mentoring and training designers in aesthetic, design, and production skills
  • Proactively communicate design information and updates to the wider team
  • Support the overall planning of the project
  • Foster collaborative working relationships with discipline leads
  • Own the playtesting process to help refine the quality of the experience for players
  • Collaborate with Marketing and PR to be a public spokesperson for design, and create and deliver high quality assets in support of the game as necessary
  • Create new exciting game pitches for future projects, and help develop the product strategy for the studio


What you need:

  • Proven track record as a Game Director / Design Director or Lead Designer on at least 2 successfully published game titles, participating in development from concept to publishing stage
  • Expertise with setting the design vision and delivery of best in class experiences. Strong presentation and writing skills geared towards building design documentation
  • A strong passion and ambition for building incredible games and motivating teams
  • Ability to communicate, present, and sell to all game development functions including the development team, publisher, and press
  • Experience working on high-end narrative action titles
  • Well versed in all areas of AAA game design
  • Unity experience (hands on implementation a plus)
  • Comfortable with working in a fast-paced environment
